I recently found out that there is a Christian holiday called, "Advent." Now I have never heard of it before so you can imagine my first reaction...days off from school. Then I thought of what the heck this advent means. We all know about thanksgiving, christmas, easter, halloween, and 4th of july, but what about this advent? Apparently advent means preparation. The Christian church met it 387ad in Gaul (present day France) and decided to set aside four weeks to prepare for Christmas to represent the coming of Jesus. That is so cool that the church wanted to have a time of preparation before Christmas. This led me to the conclusion that I needed to prepare myself spiritually before Christmas came. So from now until Christmas I will put myself through spiritual rigors so that I will be closer to God for Christmas and then i can really appreciate this holiday more than days off from school.
